First Impressions Count
When you meet a new person, subconsciously the mouth is one of the first three things you’ll notice of that person. Thus if you have a beautiful white smile it will be remembered. Your smile is basically the most important part of any aesthetic make up.
Am I a candidate for Teeth Whitening?
We can only whiten your own natural teeth. If you have any crowns, bridges or fillings you can always replace them with a whiter colour material. If you’re not happy with the colour of your teeth, it’s always important that before you have any crowns or bridges done you do a teeth whitening so that you don’t need to spend further money replacing the crowns and bridges or end up with a smile that you’re not happy with.
What Product do you use and is it safe?
We use Yotuel Teeth Whitening Material which contains Xylitol which helps with plaque control, Fluoride which helps to prevent caries, Potassium which decreases sensitivity and it also gently cleans and whitens without detergent.
How does the process work?
The ‘in chair’ teeth whitening consists of a gentle hydrogen-peroxide whitening gel activated by a plasma light. The whole procedure is done in the surgery. The plasma light that we use is not UV, heat activated or laser activated. It is a gentle blue light that compliments the whitening gel to effectively whiten and brighten your teeth in just over an hour. Your gums are protected with isolation material, while we apply the gel and then activate it with the light. After about 4 sessions of 15 minutes your whitening is completed, we then remove the gel and gum protection layer, you rinse and your whitening is done.
In most cases you need to have a scale and polish (cleaning) done before the whitening, so that we can remove plaque and stains from teeth, which will improve the whitening and also when you polish teeth it makes the surface of your teeth smooth which prevents the fast discolouration of your teeth.
How long appointment do I need?
Including the cleaning, the appointment will take about 1 ½ hours.
What habits affects teeth whitening?
Certain ongoing habits, such as the use of red wine, coffee and tea, smoking, dark soft drinks, etc. can work against the results. Foods such as blueberries will also discolour your teeth. Foods that help remove superficial stains include strawberries, lemons, apples, pears, carrots, celery and cucumber.
Under normal circumstances teeth whitening can last up to 2 years, providing the patients have regular visits to the Oral Hygienist for teeth cleaning. Some people may prefer to do the whitening treatments once a year.
